Stability Testing and Electronic Characterization of Kesterite Solar Cells for Indoor Applications

Indoor photovoltaics (IPV) are essential for powering low-energy devices like sensors and wearables. The IEC protocol TS 62607-7-2:2023 provides a standard for IPV performance, with an ideal bandgap of ~1.8–1.9 eV for optimal energy harvesting.

Stability, alongside efficiency, is critical for commercializing solar cells. Using Paios, we tested Li-alloyed Se-rich kesterite cells, which perform well indoors due to high shunt resistance in low light. Aging tests showed fill factor losses caused by increased doping and electron extraction barriers, confirmed by Setfos simulations.

This highlights the importance of combining advanced tools to investigate and mitigate degradation in emerging PV technologies.
