We’re off to China - Fluxim at ICDT 2024


20 Years of Setfos

Firstly, we would like to share a major milestone for us at Fluxim. Setfos, the simulation software on which Fluxim was built, is celebrating 20 years. For two decades, Setfos has been at the forefront of LED and PV research, providing researchers with unparalleled simulation capabilities.

To date over 550 papers have been published using Setfos.

And it doesn’t stop there. Setfos has lasted because we have kept it relevant to the needs of researchers. Version 5.5 will be released soon which will include some exciting news updates including:

  • New model for energy-distributed traps including full trapping-detrapping dynamics.

  • Large signal analysis for electrical devices with non-linear response.

  • Significant speedup of optical emission simulations.

  • New update installer to get the newest version with just one click.

  • …and more

New Research Blog- Optimizing Tandem Solar Cells with Simulations

Our most recent blog acknowledges Longi's record in Perovskite/Silicon Tandem solar cell efficiency.

Primarily, it is a useful overview showing the advantages of a perovskite/Si tandem solar cell over a single-junction PV. It also discusses advanced solutions like multi-junction, hot carrier, intermediate bandgap, and multiple exciton generation cells.

The blog highlights the efficiency gains possible through silicon/perovskite tandem cells, using advanced light management and cell configuration optimization.

If you are interested in the simulation of tandem PVs, this could be a good place to start.

Call for Abstracts - SimOEP 2024

SimOEP is back. The 9th International Conference on Simulation of Organic Electronics and Photovoltaics (SimOEP) is set for 2nd - 4th September 2024 in Winterthur, Switzerland.

This conference unites modelling experts and device physicists to discuss advances in organic and perovskite solar cells and OLEDs, covering a wide range of topics from charge and heat transport to light propagation.

A call for abstracts is open until 31st May, with acceptance notifications by 21st June 2024. SimOEP is a prime opportunity for scholars to contribute to the evolving field of organic and perovskite-based electronics.

We are off to China - Fluxim at ICDT 2024

Fluxim's Dr. Sandra Jenatsch and Moon Kang Heo will be at ICDT 2024, presenting talks on OLEDs and quantum dots for LEDs.

The conference, a premier event by SID, focuses on new advancements and international cooperation in display technology, covering themes from VR/AR to green manufacturing. It aims to bolster the global display tech community and China's industry leadership. The event takes place at the Binhu Hefei International Convention and Exhibition Center.

New Research Project - RADICALS

Fluxim’s research team has been beating the odds recently with the approval of 3 new major research projects. The latest project to kick off is RADICALS. The acronym stands for:

Rationally Designed Thin Contact Layers enabling Large-Scale Perovskite-on-Silicon Tandem Photovoltaics (RADICALS)

Project Partners in Switzerland: EPFL (PVLab), CSEM, ZHAW, KTU, Fluxim

Duration: 48 months

Funding: Swiss National Science Foundation

About RADICALS

The RADICALS project seeks to enhance photovoltaic efficiency by developing metal halide perovskite (Pk)/silicon (Si) tandem solar cells, aiming for over 30% efficiency on areas larger than 100 cm² and extending operational lifetimes to rival those of Si photovoltaics. Perovskites offer low-temperature processing, abundant materials, and high lab efficiencies, but scaling up and durability are challenges. The project will delve into the growth principles of Pk and contact materials, particularly focusing on self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) for their superior lab-scale performance.

Through novel SAMs, the project aims to address the performance and stability of Pk/Si tandems, improving deposition methods for scalability and robustness. Collaborating across several institutions, RADICALS combines expertise in device integration, material development, and advanced characterization to overcome the current limitations of tandem solar cells, aiming for high-efficiency, stable, and scalable solutions for the photovoltaic industry.
